The Week from Hell.

...What do you mean it's only Tuesday? So it's Finals week for my school, oh lucky, lucky me. Monday I get awakened (after staying up until 3 am studying) at 9 am by the step MIL...NINE AM!!! Zomg. I had to be nice and gracious at 9 am. I made my mom tell her i was sleeping and would call her when I woke up. Then went back to sleep until 10. So I'm running around all day getting things on my ToDo list done (read: not studying because I had the whole night and I got home at 4pm). I get home, put my stuff away, knit a little (to decompress) and I get this phone call from work. "Are you on your way to work?" Uh..No. It's monday night, why would I be on my way to work? "We have a show. I told you about it." What show? I know nothing about a show (Mind you we only have shows on the WEEKEND) "I told you about it on saturday" I didn't work on saturday. "Then I must have told you about it on Friday" No, I didn't know anything about a show.

I'm gonna say it: Fuck me. Fuck my job. I'm going to fail one of my classes because they "Couldn't find anyone else to work" so I had to take 5 FUCKING HOURS out of my studying time to work this piece of shit and wound up standing around doing practically NOTHING because we were then over staffed (some customers didn't show up) but was I able to go home? No. Fuck you! So I had to pick which class I was more willing to fail. I made my decision and stayed up the rest of the night working on a portfolio for my class and re-editing papers.

Moving on because I get really fucking bitter and resentful and since i have to work ANOTHER extra show on Friday and be NICE to people, I think I ought to move on. Today saw allot of knititng (4 hours worth as a treat for getting through yesterday) but I wasn't able to post any of it until I finished a take home final (done!). I started on a ribbed hat form Winter Knits kit for my husband's liberty buddy and I'm about half way done:
DSCN0300

As well as my solstice socks:
DSCN0301

And Matthew got to play with grenades today and survived the experience. This makes me happy (the survival bit). Well I'm off for sleep since I can now guilt free crash for the night (oh but wait, theres that other pesky final tomorrow) oh well. Teh Brain is done.

My brownies ARE better than sex.

My brownies are better than sex!

I love Marines. No, really. I sent my husband and his Liberty buddy back to the base for the week with some brownies I had made for them this weekend. Three went to specific guys (namely the ones who sleep in the bunk-beds next to my husband and don't inform the Sergeants he's calling me during the week when he isn't supposed to) and 3 were left over. Well apparently, one of the guys broke his in half and gave one to his friend to eat. His friend took one bite (I make em big), looked at my husband and said, "This brownie is better than the sex I had this morning!!!"

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

There have apparently been requests for a full batch this weekend. LMAO. See? You gotta love Marines because they are so...appreciative. *snicker*

So my night has gone much better since my husband told me that. He said he'd try to call on Tuesday (this is when they are playing with grenades) to let me know I'm alive but otherwise it's no calls for me this week. One of his Sergeants said if they are caught on the phones not only will he take the phone away but he'll make it so they can't go home for x-mas. ZOMG. How $&%^@% would we be if that happened to us?

I've decided to crochet granny squares out of misc sock yarn but it's not a project I'm actively working on (other than tonight to clear out some of my f-ing sock yarn). I make the squares as I go but I don't particularly care for granny squares. Especially the weaving in bit. Ugh. But I am almost (Ha) done with two skeins.

My brownies are better than sex. Rock.

Sunday-ness

I've this thing about Sundays. I'm not sure why but about 1/3 of my Sundays leave me feeling melancholy and slightly uncomfortable. No particular reason really but there you have it.

Knitting wise some things are moving trippingly along and others are doing their best to stop. My solstice socks are about half done, one sock is completed and I am working on the st-st park oo the ankle.
DSCN0286

This was the first one prior to finish but theres your idea of what it looks like. The yarn is disgustingly splitty and annoying to work with but I do love the color. Hopefully the next shipment of YP is better quality.

My lace shawl is stopped because i made a mistake somewhere and tat means I have to tink back until I find it. Goody. But it is pretty:
DSCN0281

Other than those two things I've nothing on the needles. I'm going to start a hat for my husband's liberty buddy for x-mas but I need the yarn for that so it'll be off to the yarn store for me tomorrow.

Perhaps I ought to study for finals or something...bah.

Procrastination you evil being.

Hello! I'm avoiding my Roman paper that I have to finish writing and is due tomorrow (yet have no time to write tomorrow). Sigh.

So I cast on the Orel Lace Scarf and have worked a few pattern repeats and it's going well so far (knock on wood) but that came to a screeching halt because i haven't had time to sit down and knit really. This weekend was mad crazy driving back and froth from Pendleton and working the whole weekend and baby showers. Also, yesterday (omg it's only Tuesday?!) I belly danced at a local college then went out looking for an outfit to wear for my bridal shower which is tomorrow. Found nothing. Came home and started my paper. Not sure were to go with it so it came to a screeching halt.

Today I meant with the DJ, found an outfit to wear (Banana Republic thank you!) for the Bridal shower tomorrow (omg so not ready), and (SQUEE!) my wedding dress came in a week and a half early so i was able to go and get it tailored and it should be done this weekend! Sooooo excited. I do have pictures but my husband pokes around here from time to time so I can't post any. Boo. It's stunning. I managed to get in a round of knititng on the Solstice socks after frogging the whole damned first one because I cast on the wrong number of stitches (dood) while waiting in line to buy stuff for tomorrow. Blah.

So! I will have to post pictures after the shower (possiably Thursday?) of knititng and the shower. Have a great night guys!

Finished Socks and stress

I finished my Briar Rose socks. I'm far, far ot stressed to do any kind of magical linking, so I got them form www.theloopyewe.com.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

They turned out nice. I also got in my Helen's Lace form Lorna's Laces (also form TLE) but I just need the needles to start my project:
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

And I'm far, far to stressed out with my life. To the point where I'm "knititng because if i think about everything going on I will break down and cry" type stress. I RAN OUT OF PAPER FOR MY TO-DO LIST!!!

omg.
So it's another pair of st-st socks in Solstice from Yarn Pirate's booty club.

Sick

I am the lucky recipient of a Sinus Infection. Oh joy! I wound up going to my school's health care facility and getting medication through them-mind you I have 3, count them THREE health care coverages but couldn't access 2 of them. One is through the Marine Corps but I have to go on base to set it up, but I don't have my ID yet and can only go on the weekends during visiting hours which is most likely when they are closed. Gah.

Anyway, I've got my medicinal cocktail and feel only slightly more human since other monthly events have started..You get my drift. Knitting!

I'm past the gusset and just working on the rounds of the foot on the Briar Rose socks 9I keep changing their name) and my yarn came in from The Loopy Ewe last night so I'll be casting on my first lace project today.

At least now that I'm full of medicine my brain only slightly hurts and I'll be able to concentrate tonight....although I do have 2 papers w/ presentations due soon...One I haven't even started the research on. Please, shoot me now.

Knitting, Hubby and New Skilz!

I am officially now Alexis Tabor!! I went down to the SS office and got my named changed. How exciting!!! And to amuse you with pictures of the happy couple (1/2 of which was off learning to throw grenades and DIDN'T CALL HIS WIFE TO LET HER KNOW HE'S ALIVE-not that I'm bitter or anything):

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This picture makes me smile. :)
Moving onto knitting:

So I finished a bag for an x-mas gift and i'm less than pleased. The whole thing just seems so unfinished and really, kind of blah. Which means I'm going to have to add something to make it a good gift since it's for my brothers fiancee. Espically since she's painting me a picture in exchange. I hate when I give what I feel is crappy gifts.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Looking at it more and more I dislike it more and more. Damn.

But for good news!!! I learned a new skill tonight! I learned how to kitchener a toe on a sock!!!! I'm using Sheepaints Briar Rose and finished hte 1st sock of the pair. I've also cast on the 2nd sock. (I'm of the mind set that if you cast the 2nd sock on within 20 minutes of casting off the 1st oyu can avoid SSS *knock on wood*).
(These are true colors by the way. Isnt' it lovely!!!??)
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

And now my New TOE!!...Er...Toe Cast off...ahem.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I'm waiting for my new lace weight from The Loopy Ewe to make a shawl for my best friend for Christmas. :)I'll let oyu know if the hubby survived Grenade throwing 101 as soon as I find out. (not that I'm bitter or anything).

Edited to add:They wound up not tossing grenades thanks to rain. Whew. Glad to see he's alive.

And so it begins again

I'm driving my wonderful husband (still makes me smile to say it) down to Pendleton for more training. He'll be living on base most of the month (although he'll get xmas and our wedding date off-the family hooplah-) and he may get a few weekends here and there off. However, it's still two months of him basically being gone and I've really enjoyed living with him again.

Although I've got to say it kind of feels like this month has been a dream. A very lovely dream.

Knit wise (to make this somewhat related) I've re-cast on the Briar Rose socks and have made decent headway on the old boring purse (39 inches of garter stitch).

Have a great day everyone.

Thanksgiving

Food was good.
Knitting was boring.
More food was better.
Pumpkin pie was yummy.
Knitting was still dull and boring.
Mashed Potatoes were fantastic.

Alas, the knitting was still boring. But I'm not knititng something I enjoy, it's a gift so...you know...blah.

However, my thanksgiving was fun and food filled. How can you complain? I actually went to the mall with my hubby on Black Friday and we found parking w/in 3 minutes of arriving... This is of course due to me walking with people to their car and standing in the space until he could bring the car around. Pissed of some silly twit who said, "Just so you know you can't do that" Really? Because I just did. BAM!

It's called being prepared you gas guzzling half wit. But don't get me started on her supped-out truck. Ugh.

And alas, more boring knititng coming my way.

Drink the Night Away

So the hubby wants to go see Saw 4 and some other movie I would absolutely hate, and loathe after he gets off work. Since he has my car and I won't be going anywhere until 10pm at the earliest- I've whipped out the wine to drink while knititng on this "purple bag of boring doom that I really didn't want to make in the first place but it's a christmas gift dammit and I have to do 11 inches, INCHES of st-st TWICE!!!" and listen to Lime and Violet (click their names for their blog-as if you haven't already heard of them. If I've heard of someone that means EVERYONE on the face of this planet already has). It should prove to be amusing. :D

In other news, I've donated a ton of yarn to goodwill (single balls and some cotton I had laying about) and feel much better about the whole stash thing. (as in "the crap is gone" and not "I have too much").

Pictorial Update

I am killing time prior to class to bring you this Pictorial Update. Weee!

Finally here is a picture of the Alpaca Scarf I knit for my cousin:

Yea! Next up we have the socks I made from one of the 2 skeins I got in a swap (because I have teeny tiny feet)
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

And finally! Here is the sock yarn I'm going to be knitting up next:
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Zomg, isn't it beautiful?!?! Can't wait!

Especially since i have NO PROJECTS ON MY NEEDLES! I have some in the que list but not actually on the needles. Weird. I am next knititng up a purple bag from Stitch and Bitch for my future SIL for christmas. That being said, I'm off to cast on!

Finally

Well the husband has just left to see the movie Beowulf with a friend (I was invited but it's so not my thing) so I am alone after 16 wonderful days of not alone-ness. Hazza.

Not too much knitting has been done. I frogged the Mad Crazy sicks from Fleece Artist (cry) because it was jsut too think of a yarn for my size 3 DPNs. I did however receive 2 skeins of self-patt yarn from a Fall Swap I did:
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

So I started that one. Currently the damn this is on hold because the "frickin dag-gone" stitches kept committing knitting suicide and hurtled themselves off the DPN and I've not had the patience to pick up the 9 or so stitches. Buggers. But the color way is neat: reminds me of the cotton candy vendors at the summer Fairs.

I did a K2P2 scarf for my cousin (male) for x-mas out of alpaca yarn (no pictures because I'm a lazy wench)...do you think that's enough of a gift or do I need to add something to it? Let me know!

My sock yarn club for Yarn Pirate just shipped on friday so it ought to arrive on Monday (yea!) but have I knit with the first shipment yet? No.
I also have Lisa Souza, STR medium weight, Ocean Wind Knits, Fleece Artist and lots of pretty sock yarn I'd like to knit up but my problem is this:

Some of the sock yarn is lightweight. I've only really knitted with medium weight (Jitterbug, Cherry tree Hill) and so always cast on 48 stitches for my sock patterns. When I did this with the Fleece artist (Madder) the stitches were too loose. SO!! If i knit with smaller needles and lightweight yarn: DO I NEED TO CAST ON MORE STITCHES THAN MY 48?!

If not I'm good to go, if I do I'm so screwed. Math and I are not friends.

Soon.

I will update. Soon. Promise. Lots of pictures.

Absoutly No Knitting!

I've gotten absolutely no knitting done since Friday...Because Matthew Graduated from the Marine Corps Boot Camp!!!!!!
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

That was us on family day sitting in my car (he wasn't allowed off base that day) just talking and laughing. One of the best days of my life.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

His mom took that one of us, before she left on family day to give us some time together...No nothing scandalous happened. That sort of thing wasn't allowed. LoL. I love these pictures. And here is what I wore to the Graduation Ceremony:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Knitty's Intolerable Cruelty!!! I finished all the little loopy things on Halloween before bed, then drove down to San Diego the next day. :D I got allot of complements and Matthew apparently got a few "head nods" the "kind guys give..." LoL.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Anyway, I'm off to mail out swap packages, get paperwork galore (oh my god the sheer amount of paperwork we have to get...), talk to Marine people, buy stuff (alas, no yarn) and clean because...My bedroom? Does not hold all his military "trash" (aka "stuff") so we have to re-arrange and put some things in storage. Have a fantastic day!!!

Updating!

Ok, just 2 days until I see my husband again. I am going crazy in the process. I finished my purple and pink socks and STILL have yarn left over from each skein. Gah. I'm STILL not finished with Intolerable Cruelty, so tomorrow prior to school I'm running mt arse down to the knitting shop to get help then finishing it as soon as freaking possible. I've started another pair of st-st socks (I promise one day I'll branch out) in Fleece Artist. Not sure how I like the yarn itself but the color way is lovely (Madder). I'm calling them my Mad Crazy Socks. I also just bought this beautiful skein from The Loopy Ewe which I'll link to eventually. And post pictures.

But here's what my pink and purple socks look like:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I've cleaned, knitted, done homework and I'm still going stark-raving waiting for Thursday. Oh my gods. Now I'm off to take pain killers for this nasty headache, finish cleaning (hahahahahahaha), grab my costume form storage for tomorrow (extra credit if I wear it to class), make my fall swap stuff (soooooo pretty! I'll show you later), do more homework, shop for a few snacks for Matthew (at his request) and...and...knit?

Feel free to send yarn and/or booze my way.

Or Nitrous Oxide. I do enjoy that when I'm at the dentist.

Yarn Buying

I am buying yarn today. I need the therapy after yesterday.

Yarn.

Tra La La Avoiding the Homework

I only have 6, count them SIX DAYS until I see my Hubby again!!!!! I hate boot camp. Minor panic earlier in the week, with all the fires going on in San Diego I had heard rumors that Graduation was going to be held off but, HA HA I didn't believe them and turns out the rumors were wrong. Thank god. So my hubby will be a Marine on Nov. 2nd. Which means I get to se ehim on Nov 1st!!!! Whew.

I finished my Pumpkin socks (alas, no pictures yet) and cast on another pair from previous skeins of yarn to use them up so I can take them off my stash.

No new news on Intolerable Cruelty being completed, I haven't had knitting class in 2 weeks since the owners husband had cancer removal surgery from his stomach. I think I'm going to have to figure out the rest on my own and I am TERRIFIED that I'm going to F it up. Sigh. I'm sleepy for some unknown reason, so I'm going to go look at the amount of homework I should be doing and then start knitting.

Monday, October 22, 2007

Homework Avoidance

Morning. So I have this homework due and it doesn't look like I'll actually be doing it...Just sayin. So!

Intolerable Cruelty: The knitting is DONE! YES! All I have to do is sew the elastic waist band in and make the little loops for the lacing and I'm all set to go. This isn't the best picture but I'll get more once it's all said and done.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Now the Pumpkin socks: Broke one of my bamboo needles. sad. Very, very sad. I only knit with 4 at a time so I was able to switch it out using the 5th one, but still. I'm one needle short of a set (lmao).
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

And finally! I got my first shipment in of yarn pirate sock club. The yarn is smoochy and I love how soft it is. The colors are not a combo I would have ever picked out for myself but none-the less I'm looking forward to seeing how it's knitted up. It's called "Killer bees". LoL.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I've joined a KAL for sock knitting/sock yarn de-stash if only because I've always wanted to do a KAL and I'm really looking forward it it!

(lacking in a catchy title)

Hello! I'm ALMOST done with Intolerable Cruelty!!! Yea!! I'm working on the 3 inch ruffle at the end of the skirt. I slipped it on yesterday and took some pictures, but i have to edit them. That whole "Knitted skirt" thing and needing a slip for underneath. >< The skirt is a little loose, but I assume once I sew the waist band in it'll fit much better. Now I just have to finish the ruffle, crochet the loops for the ribbon and sew in the waist band. Ces't fin!

My pumpkin socks are still in progress. One is finished and the other I'm still working on the cuff. In my defence I had a midterm in my wicked-boring class on Thursday so I couldn't spend the time knitting. Any free bulk of time (read:when I should be working on my research paper) is taken up by knititng my skirt... Yes, yes my priorities are straight, thanks for asking! Hee hee.

I cannot WAIT for November 1st, I'm so looking forward to see my Husband again. SOOOO EXCITED! Aside form LimeNViolet and knitting the other thing that's really kept me sane is my new Military Wives Group on Ravelry. Those women give me hope and inspire (just don't ever say to them, "I don't know how you do it!" "It" being deployment. They may kill you. :P ). Lol. Well, hopefully I'll get pictures tomorrow up on the site, work tomorrow will be hell (feel free to prove me wrong Universe) since we are expecting 104 people for the 1st show and the room only comfortably holds 90ish. Wish me luck!

[edited to add: oh my god 376 stitches per row x's 3 inches=PAIN!]

Intolerably Cruelty

Wee I got a letter from my Hubby in boot camp only 17 days until he graduates (16 until I see him again)!

I'm at the halfway mark on my Intolerable Cruelty skirt, 11 inches to be exact (out of 22). Thank goodness I'm past the nerve wracking part. Now it's all st-st stitches and a few more decreases. And the Ruffle, but I'm not going to worry about that yet. OMG. I still haven't gone shopping for a shirt for it yet. >< Sometimes my forgetfulness is annoying.

So I have a midterm today but instead of doing last minuet studying, I'm going to knit. Knit, knit, knit.

Not much of Knitting

Well, not too much knitting went on this weekend because I was belly dancing at a wedding on Sunday and had to practice between work.

Yea! Dance dance dance!

Just so this is knitting related, heres a finished shot of my felted bag. Woo hoo! It's an awesome book bag for school. :)

LALALALA CANT HEAR YOU

Time for an UPDATE! Woooo.

Are we excited yet?! SO! I finished my socks on Wednesday using yarn from The Hand Painted Sheep (dusk). Go check Laura's site out, she is teh roxsors. :) So here are my socks in all their lovely goodness!
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ta Daaa! Pretty no? I also started Knitty's Intolerable Cruelty on Thursday and while I do have a picture, it's not current anymore since I've been knitting like MAD on it since I started. (5 hours Friday, 3 hours Saturday). I'm MUCH farther along.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Much. I'm little over 7 inches. Weeeee. I've felted the scrap bag I was working on and now it's sitting in my bathtub drying. Here it is pre felting:
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I'm pretty pleased with how it all came out. Not too bad. I also bought yarn. Sock yarn to be exact. I knew I should not but...the inner part of my soul that only lives for October and all it implys jumped up and SCREAMED to get it. Look. It's Pretty.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

HOW I ask you was I supposed to resist? Yes I know I have a ton of sock yarn I've not used yet (Lisa Souza, Socks that Rock and Shaffer Anne) but with those I feel like doing only st-st socks isn't using them to their full potential. I'm going to try Monkey socks from Knitty with the Lisa Souza eventually. Promise.

Socky Sanity!

I've been knitting these socks for a few days now (I only put them down for work, school, sleeping, eating and showering-all of which take up an annoying ammount of time) and have yet to thank the lady who sent them my way. I'm a horrible person. I will today though, I'll put i ton my to-do list.

The socks are going well, I've finished one and am on the gusset decreases as we speak. I was up late last night working on it while listening to Lime and Violet, but forced myself to stop else I have nothing to knit in my boring class of DOOM!

The color-way is beautiful and looks like the clouds it was created after once it's all knitted up. The yarn itself is a little splitty but I've managed well enough since all I'm doing is a st-st sock. No, I haven't started on the jay-walker, I need to though. The yarn for Knitty's Intolerable Cruelty is supposed to come to my house today, here's hoping. No pictures as of yet on the socks, but I should be done with them tonight.

Fall

I love fall. I love everything about it (except the spiders). The colors and the rare, cloudy, rainy days like...TODAY! I'm sitting here in my hand-knit sweater (Cable Trim Pullover) and in my hand-knit socks (the first pair I ever made and they are still the most comfortable and fit the best...) and it's cloudy outside! Yea!

My mom and I are going down to a quilt store this afternoon then a Tea Parlor/House to check it out for a possible wedding/reception site.

And it's CLOUDY outside!!!!! Sooo happy!

In knitting news, last night at class I had to rip back 40 rows on the Sparkle Bolero because i read the pattern wrong (cry) but now it's on track and I don't feel like avoiding it like the plague. This is good. I worked on my new sock (just a st-st one they are so easy to do and keep me busy) during most of my classes yesterday...except at the knitting one. LoL. Once I get around to taking them, I'll post pictures of everything. But for now, I'm going to knit and look at the sky. BEAUTIFUL!

Upcomming Projects

So, not that I'm crazy or insane or anything but I just bought the yarn for Knitty's: Intolerable Cruelty. That's not the crazy part. Nor is the fact I just dropped $73.24 on yarn for it from Yarn Market. No, what's crazy is my decision that this skirt needs to be made by November 2nd OR THE WORLD WILL END!!! *doooom* Sigh. Deadlines. November 2nd is when my sexy husband graduates from the Marine Corps Boot Camp and I wanted to wear this skirt because, you know, it's smokin' hot. That and he won't have seen me for 89 days (not that I'm counting...38 to go) and well, I'm sure you know where that's headed. So I picked out the black bamboo color and want to get a blue satin blouse (with a matching ribbon for the lacing bit of the skirt) to complement it. Preferably the shade of my eyes. So the nano-second the yarn comes in I have to cast it on RIGHT THEN or I'm screwed. Figuratively of course. I've got several papers and mid-terms which all happen to fall a week prior to him graduating and the week after he get's off leave (the gods have smiled thusly upon me...hopefully he dosen't get held back). So that is my yarn fix for the day.

....please let the yarn arrive soon....

In other news I have nothing mindless to knit. The felted bag is done and needs to be..felted. I was going to start my first pair of jaywalkers but it requires 5 DPNs and I only have a set of 4. But I ought to go down a size anyway since I knit loose. I swear to all that is holy if I ever sit through my Religious Diversity class again without knitting, I will go insane. Never, ever again.

BUT! (hee) Remember that contest I mentioned awhile back where I sent in a picture of what reminds me of fall and if I were to win I'd get a skein of the color way that inspired it? Well I won. Laura from The Handpainted Sheep mailed out my skein (in sock yarn squee) and it came to my house 2 days ago. I had mom open it and she was like, "OOOOOO this is beautiful!!!" I'm dying to see it! I have to skip on home tomorrow so I am so snagging that skein, rolling it into a ball and knitting my way through sanity on Thursday. I can't wait to see it! Squee!

On that note I ought to head for bed. I've got to be at the dentist for a filling removal, cavity filling and temp. crown placement all on the same tooth at 8am!!! *cry* I'm going to need the yarn therapy for sure.

Podcasts and Finished Projects

So, apparently the new bee in my bonnet is that I want to do a knitting podcast. I don't know why I think I'd have enough to say about knitting to fill in a half hour to an hour worth of show, but there you have it. I want to podcast. Mind you, my experience with all things technical is rather akin to my love for math...Which is to say Non-existent. I'm one of those "point and click" users of the computer world and god forbid I learn HTML. The thought is terrifying. So what makes me think I could Podcast? Lord knows.

Moving on to all things knitting and goodness!

My Alpaca Cable Trim Sweater from Vogue Knitting (Fall 2006) is DONE DONE DONE! Finally! As we speak I'm wearing it now (It's a bit itchy but I'm sure I'll survive) and aside from the itchy factor, it's comfortable. Comfort is my Mecca if you will. We have nearly achieved bliss.... Ok so yeah, that's a bit overdoing it I know. The fit could be better ((I also could gain some weight) but it's not too tight in the arms and is long enough in my torso to not annoy.

See what I mean? But it's nice and I'll wear it plenty...although that means I'll have to wash it and block it and uh...I've never blocked anything in my life. Oy.

Next up we have my finished purple socks of joy! Actually, they were rather an annoying pair to make over all. I made the first one easy peasy, then on my second one, made it too short. My right foot is a size 7.5 my left foot an 8. I've successfully made 2 pairs of socks by this pair and so you'd think I'd realize that I cannot make my left foot the same amount of stitches as my right. Alas. I had to redo the left sock. Cry. But I love how they turned out and wear all my hand knit socks more than I do any others.

I've also finished a k2-p2 ribbed scarf for a gentlemen who worked on the train I took home from Illinois this summer. He was so nice and supportive about my husband being in the Marines (he's a former one himself) that I wanted to make him something. Which is not to say I've ran into many jerks (there are a few sad to say) but everyone always been like, "ohhhhhh...the marines?! Why?" and in general not supportive. To them I say, "Kiss my Fairy Wings". Anywhodles, so I told him I'd make a scarf and he gave me his address to mail it too. I bet $10.00 that he thinks I forgot. :)

This was right before I finished the scarf, sadly, I have no Finished Pictures yet, as this weekend was busy and didn't lend itself to picture taking. It'll be a nice surprise for him in the mail, something un-expected. I love things like that. And speakin gof getting mail, look what I got from the Loopy Ewe on Monday!!!

(The yarn not the bottles) It's gorgeous!!!! It's called Coral Reef from The Knittery. My only issue with it was there was a knot in it and while I was winding the ball the yarn snapped in two! So, I tied it into a knot and kept winding. Pretty colors but sadly, it now has 2 knots. But I'll be making my first pair of Jaywalkers out of it which I hope to cast on this week. :) Have a wonderful day guys!!

Playing Catch Up

So I clearly haven't posted substance in a few weeks (does anyone read this thing anyway?) and, well, this is some substance but not a ton. I started school at "The Beach" and am enjoying Dorm life mostly (the food is delish and I don't even have to make it!). My classes are divided into 2 types of days: M/W Super Awesome JOY! T/R Boredom and Doomy Doooom! Alas, I shall survive. My morning T/R Class boredom is solved by knitting in between note taking (my teacher is long winded so I get an amazing amount done) so I have done more knitting since realizing this.

I finished my purple st-st socks and am going to Branch out and try Jaywalkers. Wish me luck! I bought some yarn from the Loopy Ewe (linky linky) which I'm hoping will work. It's currently sitting at my house so I'm waiting to see if I have any mail coming in from my Husband otherwise I'll wait and pick it up this weekend. But I really really want to knit with it now....

I've started on another felted bag, to use up the rest of those skeins I made the first two from. I'm still going to have to buy another skein to get the required height. I've decided on a pale green if my LYS has it. Here's hoping!

I've also started on a K2P2 Ribbed Scarf in Puverian Highland Wool for a gentleman I met on my train ride home. I bet he thinks I forgot, or he forgot. Hehe, it'll be a nice surprise waiting for him in his mailbox....Aren't those the best kind?

I'll be posting pictures soon, I just want to get everything photographed and uploaded first. I hope everyone is doing well!

Bear's Quilt Shop

My faith, ladies and gents, in humanity has decreased after today's little foray to Bear's Quilt Shop. Sometime between 3am and 7am this morning, someone BROKE IN, and stole several computers, a laptop and printer along with personal information that was on said computers. These are some of the nicest men I've ever had the privilege to know and they are some of the last people on this earth who deserve what happened.

SO! Labor Day Weekend (Sat-Mon) I believe they'll be having a sale going on to help raise funds (they have insurance but need their deductible paid) so if you are in the area, show your support please. I'll keep you updated on how things go.

But to rob a QUILT SHOP? It disgusts me....

...thankfully they were too f-ing stupid to take any fabric or the finished quilts.

FO's and new Projects

I'm home finally. I've got some chores and such to do before I move to campus on Saturday. For now, I finished the baby blanket I was working on-yea! I'ts Sleepy Time SeaShells and is loverly in organic cotton.

I also started a new sock, just to get me through the train ride home, and I've cast on for the next one. The pattern is the Basic Sock by Edie Eckman.

Updates

We went to Stitches Midwest Saturday evening and then most of the day Sunday. Saturday, I taught my mom how to cast on and knit in the contential style and bought my first pair of STK. Yea! On Sunday, I bought my first drop spindle, roving, 2 skeins of highland wool in a deep blue heathered color, a hank of sock yarn (the name escapes me atm), stitch markers, the book Victorian Lace Today, a head muff ear thingy (I swear I'll get pictures) and something...else...as a Christmas gift. But, alas, I'm still at the Little Town USA Public library wherein I can't post any pictures. Blah. Hopefully I'll be able to bring my laptop over to my Aunt's house and hi-jack her Internet. :D Then, THEN I can do a huge major post. Including, but not limited to, finished projects, WIP's, and yarn p0rn. Woot! Oh, and update how much I've spent on knitting...Gah...

Quick Update

Here I am at the Public Library in Little Town USA, since I can't get any connection from my laptop. That does mean that I can't update with pictures but I can tell you what's been going on.

Matthew left on Tuesday and the only thing keeping me sane is Lime and Violet's podcast. I knitted a pair of socks on the train (just st-st stitch) and I'm working on my bolero and baby blanket now. I'm just trying to relax and de-stress which will be so helped by Stitches Midwest!!! We are leaving tomorrow for a 4 hour drive and are spending the night up north. I've never been before and I'm super excited.

I'd go on but my allotted time is up so off I must go. Have a lovely day, and I'll have to post more later!

Quick Knitted Projects....

...To distract me from my desperation to knit with my new sock yarn. I've got these 2 balls of Jitterbug Sock Yarn that I so badly want to knit but I must wait for the train ride to start. So tomorrow around 8pm I'm casting those suckers on like theres no tomorrow (ok, I might be if I'm capable and sane enough).

In the meantime, I've started 2 projects and finished 3 with no clue as what to do with myself now. First, I bought some Alpaca from Yarn Lady awhile back and started on a Moss Seed Stitch scarf in blue and green. It was more to amuse me over the weekend until I could start my next project really since I was a new knitter and didn't know how to read any sort of pattern. Anyway once the next project got started it got put away. Well...I finished it last night and here it is for your viewing enjoyment!

Ta DAA!I also got a USMC Dishcloth pattern in the mail from a craft swap I did and knitted that up in 2 hours on Friday in Sugar N Cream yarn. The first image shows the pattern the second the color of the yarn.

THis morning (While listening to LimeNViolet) I casted on a Filippi Scarf from "One Skein Wonders" and finishe dit a few hours ago. I knitted it up in Soy Wool Stripes and used up little under a skein.

Of course, now I don't have any other quick projects to knit. Gah! Must not knit socks!

Not so Much knitting

I was stash busting and made another baby blanket for Binky Patrol (go check them out) and used up 4ish balls of Lion Brand Homespun. Some of the yarn were reminents and some were full balls. It took about 3 days off and on to do, it's all just double crochet. I'm pleased with how the over all idea came out but I had two different dye lots. I bought them back when I had no idea what dye lots were...so...TA DAAAA!

I'm also working on a Moss Seed Stitch Scarf to use up 4 mini skeins of Classic Alpaca (2 green 2 blue) just because I love me some Alpaca!

Yarn Porn, Ball Winder and Grumpy Fay

Yesterday was an ok day. I started on the Sleepy Time Seashells Blanket from "Our Best Knit Baby Afghans" in 100% Organic Cotton. Right now I'm short a stitch (it keeps happening!!! arg!!) and I don't have the heart to go back and find it. I'm currently working on the 3rd pattern set and while it is being difficult right now, I still enjoy it. It's an easy pattern to follow (the most difficult things are YO and K4TG) but still more interesting than the other things I've been doing. See?
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

So it's a bit wider now than in the picture and has a more greenish tint but it was hard to photograph. I'm also working on a Sparkle Bolero by Martin Storey in Rowan Calmer that has a reddish-purpleish hue to it. It's in this off set K2 P2 rib that when you work it, creates ridges (that are different that a K2P2 Rib). The yarn itself is lovely to work with, nice and stretchy, but I'm worried about the pattern. I'm leaving for Illinois on Monday and I've never made a bolero before. Erm. I'll be ok on the back but the front? Tricky tricky.

And now, for some lovely yarn porn. The first comes all the way from Australia and is hand dyed for yours truly in a super wash merino. The second is a jitterbug sock yarn that I'm dying to knit up but have to wait until I'm on the train to work with.

Yesterday I also bought a swift and ball winder. Finally! I have this issue it seems, where all the yarn I buy is in a hank not a ball. That of course meant every time I'd go yarn shopping I'd have to ask my LYS to wind it for me. I felt really bad because I keep buying hanks. I mean, I'm buy stuff so I shouldn't, but it seems like a hassle.

Catching up

My room is a mess (so is the rest of the house consequently), I've hardly knitted anything, I have to shop for furniture/clothing/and knit stuff before Monday the 6th, I leave for a month out of town (on a train!!!) on the 6th and Matthew leaves for MCRD (hell...) on Tuesday the 7th and I'm just not sure how it fit it all in.

Well we got back from our honeymoon (no knitting was accomplished-though I had good intentions and brought my bag) and the very next day I had work at 10am. Odd since normally we only have shows on the weekends. After work, Matthew and I watched HP movie 1 and generally slacked off. I got a wild idea to paint my room (everything had to go since our queen sized bed was moving from his place to mine) so late wednesday night I started taking everything out of the room. Thursday we painted ( I managed a few rows of knitting) Friday we painted some more (I knitted a bit more too) and Saturday we moved in the bed. Once everything is said and done, I'll share pictures but as of the moment, it's all a mess.

So thanks to the Ravelry Forum boards I got a lovely list of Podcasts to check out and currently I'm listening to Stash and Burn. My only issue is that I can't download them all and listen. Once I DL something the next one I DL replaces the previous one. Any suggestions? I'd love to have the full list of that one and a few others to take on the train with me rather than only one for the 3 day trip. Boo.

So the Cable Trim Pullover (Alpaca Sweater) has been shipped off. I dropped it off to see if I could have someone else make it up. I love the look and want to wear it, but I'm sick sick sick of making it and it looms over my head. I couldn't enjoy starting a new project with it siting there. So off it's gone and I'm currently working on a bolero in Rowan Calmer (i think). I'll have to give you more info later but my brain is sleepy which is usually my cue to head for bed.

P.S. I'm buying more sock yarn tomorrow. I'm really excited.

Busy, Busy Busy

Life has been mad crazy this past week, and the sheer lack of Blogging (and knitting for that matter) is horrible. Sorry! Once I can give the full update justice I will, but for now, I leave you with a picture of my Handfast. :)
